An intimate wedding in Ghent – from Botermarkt to Botermarkt.
Not sure which way is the best way to tell the story of Max and Luca. So why not start at the end?
It was pooring outside. The three of us were enjoying an overdose of french fries at our favorite snackbar, frituur Botermarkt. Extra snacks, since it had been a very special day. The people around us didn’t really care about the fact that M&L just walked in wearing their wedding outfits, followed by a starving paparazza. We were tired, but the happy kind of tired.
That morning Max and Luca had their ‘first look’ at the entrance of Ghent’s town hall. (Located at, that’s right, Botermarkt.) All of their friends and family were there to celebrate this amazing (and weirdly photogenic) couple. The laughter and happiness was contagious. Once inside the town hall, J.Bernardt and his guitar made sure ‘love is in the air‘ got stuck in our heads for the rest of the day. (After almost falling off the balcony.) Luca and Max had their first of many kisses as Mr. and Mrs. and headed to Alix for a cosy backyard lunch. It was an afternoon filled with good people, good food, lots of drinks and questionable bathroom dance moves.
Eventually, the newly weds and I left the party for a sunset shoot at a unique location outside of Ghent. Luca likes to call it her natural habitat. Like, who knew someone could have a Disneyland experience while being surrounded by just… stones and sand? 😉 But as the designer of THE (!) Luca Bowl, it was the absolute perfect place for their one-on-one photoshoot. We enjoyed the last rays of sun while running up and down the piles of sand. The sky turned pitch black so we hopped back into the car right on time. It was time for french fries and (slightly overpriced) kaaskroketten at, you guessed it already, Botermarkt.
