The cost of a wedding vs an elopement - what you need to know

Weddings are expensive. Or… are they?

Without turning this into a philosophical TED Talk on the nature of capitalism, let’s just say that “expensive” is wildly subjective. People spend money on what they value: some on weddings, some on avocado toast, some on vintage lava lamps. I’ve photographed weddings that cost €5.000,-, and others that cost at least 100 times as much… and everything in between. All of them were stunning, memorable, beautiful, unique, chaotic (in a good way) and absolutely perfect in their own way.

The emotional value of your wedding day is priceless. No matter what you spend, you’re not going to forget the way you felt. (Even if the memory is slightly fuzzy from champagne.)

Feeling torn?

In the end, it’s all about creating a day that feels like you. Some couples thrive on the buzz of a big party, others light up at the thought of saying their vows on top of a mountain at sunrise. There’s no right or wrong way to get married, as long as it’s your way. So spend your budget on what brings you joy. Skip the stuff that doesn’t. And remember: the best kind of wedding is the one you look back and think: ‘yup, that was us.’
